⇑Why study Computer Science at WSB University?

Dlaczego warto studiować w Akademii WSB
Why study it:

Computer Science at WSB University (Akademia WSB) is a first-cycle engineering programme taught entirely in English. It suits anyone who wants to build, secure and run modern IT systems rather than just use them.

Programme: engineering foundations and practical IT

You start with mathematics, the basics of computing, algorithms and data structures, then move on to programming, databases, operating systems, computer networks and software engineering. Along the way you learn to design, build and administer information systems and to work with network and cloud technologies. You also get to know cybersecurity, data protection, cloud computing and mobile solutions used in business. Much of the work is project-based, both individual and in teams.

Specialisation: two specialisations to choose from

Within the programme you pick one of two paths:

  • Security and Continuity of IT – cybersecurity, data protection, keeping IT systems running and managing the security of IT infrastructure.
  • Mobile and Cloud Computing – mobile technologies, cloud solutions and modern development environments and cloud services.

Labs: virtual labs and certified training

You work with modern tools including virtual laboratories and certified training, and some classes are led by practitioners with experience in new technologies.

Placements: projects, workshops and contact with industry

The programme includes work placements, workshops and project work from the very beginning. You analyse practical cases and solve problems in the way IT specialists do in daily work. Study visits and meetings with practitioners let you meet people from the industry and potential employers, and the university's cooperation with business partners keeps you close to current technology trends.

After graduation: IT roles in many kinds of organisations

After graduation you can work, for example, as:

  • a programmer or software tester
  • an IT systems administrator or analyst
  • a cybersecurity specialist
  • a cloud computing specialist
  • a technical support specialist

Did you know? The programme has international accreditations that confirm the quality of education.

3. How do you feel about analyzing algorithms and data structures?

4. To what extent do you enjoy troubleshooting errors in your work?

5. How motivated are you to master mathematical concepts used in computing?

6. How do you perceive team-based software development projects?

7. Are you eager to keep learning new frameworks and technologies?

8. How comfortable are you with abstract and theoretical concepts?

9. Do you enjoy exploring how hardware and software interact?

10. What drives you most towards a career in Computer Science?

⇑Definitions and quotes

Computer
A computer is a device that can be instructed to carry out sequences of arithmetic or logical operations automatically via computer programming. Modern computers have the ability to follow generalized sets of operations, called programs. These programs enable computers to perform an extremely wide range of tasks.
Computer Science
Computer science is the study of the theory, experimentation, and engineering that form the basis for the design and use of computers. It is the scientific and practical approach to computation and its applications and the systematic study of the feasibility, structure, expression, and mechanization of the methodical procedures (or algorithms) that underlie the acquisition, representation, processing, storage, communication of, and access to, information. An alternate, more succinct definition of computer science is the study of automating algorithmic processes that scale. A computer scientist specializes in the theory of computation and the design of computational systems. See glossary of computer science.
Science
Science (from Latin scientia, meaning "knowledge") is a systematic enterprise that builds and organizes knowledge in the form of testable explanations and predictions about the universe.
Science
Within the short span of a human life and with man's limited powers of memory, any stock of knowledge worthy of the name is unattainable except by the greatest mental economy. Science itself, therefore, may be regarded as a minimal problem, consisting of the completest possible presentment of facts with the least possible expenditure of thought.
Ernst Mach, The Science of Mechanics: A Critical and Historical Account of Its Development (1893) p. 490, Tr. Thomas J. McCormack.
Science
Take a look at George Gamow, who is now recognized as one of the great cosmologists of the last hundred years. I speculate that he probably didn't win the Nobel Prize because people could not take him seriously. He wrote children's books. His colleagues have publicly stated his writing children's books on science had an adverse effect on his scientific reputation, and people could not take him seriously when he and his colleagues proposed that there should be a cosmic background radiation, which we now know to be one of the greatest discoveries of 20th-century physics.
Michio Kaku, in "Borrowed Time: Interview with Michio Kaku".
Science
Science falsely so called.
