1. A city wants to reduce congestion on its main road. How do you approach the task?

Analyse traffic data and model scenarios such as bus lanes, new signal timings or congestion charging, then assess their impacts. Suggest widening the road. Say nothing can be done about traffic.

2. A logistics company asks you to cut delivery costs across its network. What do you do?

Use optimisation models for routes and depot locations, test them on real data and present the expected savings. Suggest making fewer deliveries. Leave it to the drivers to work out.

3. How comfortable are you with transport modelling software, GIS and statistical analysis?

Very – I enjoy building models and maps that support real decisions. I know the basics. I’d rather avoid them.

4. A rail operator wants more passengers on a regional line. What would you suggest?

Research travel demand, review timetables, connections and fares, and propose an integrated offer. Spend more on advertising. Close the line if it doesn’t pay.

5. The programme is taught in English, and your classmates know transport systems from many different countries. How do you see that?

As a big plus – I’m happy to discuss case studies in English and compare solutions that work in different places. As a challenge – I follow the material, but speaking freely in English is harder. I’d rather study in my own language, with people from my own country.

6. Your Master’s thesis could study how electric and self-driving vehicles might change urban mobility. How do you feel?

Excited – I’d review the research, gather data and build scenarios for the future. Fine, as long as my supervisor guides me closely. I’d rather not do research.

7. A major port is suddenly closed for a week, disrupting your company’s supply chain. What do you do?

Quickly identify alternative routes and modes, compare costs and keep partners informed. Wait for the port to reopen. Panic – there’s nothing I can do.

8. You coordinate a project for a new tram line involving engineers, planners and local residents. How do you handle it?

Set clear goals, run public consultations, balance different interests and keep the project on schedule. Focus only on the technical side and let others deal with people. I’d avoid that kind of responsibility.

9. How important are safety and environmental impact when you plan transport solutions?

Central – I weigh emissions, noise and accident risk alongside costs in every decision. Important, but cost always comes first. Not really my concern.

10. What motivates you most to pursue a Master’s degree in Transport?

The chance to shape efficient, safe and sustainable mobility and to take on analytical or managerial roles in transport and logistics. Wider career options in the transport sector. I’m not sure it’s for me
