Physics at Jan Długosz University in Częstochowa (UJD) is a two-year (four-semester) Master's (second-cycle) programme with a general academic profile, taught in English at the Faculty of Exact, Natural and Technical Sciences. It is for physics graduates who want to deepen their knowledge and specialise in nanomaterials or in radiation protection in medicine.
The programme expands your knowledge of physics on a thorough foundation of mathematics and natural sciences. You develop reasoning skills and learn to describe physical phenomena accurately. You work with modern measurement apparatus and technical diagnostic systems, and learn to gather, process and communicate information in the physical and technical sciences.
You choose your specialisation during recruitment. Nanophysics and Nanomaterials starts in the 2nd semester and covers semiconductor and magnetic materials, the interaction of radiation with matter, spectroscopic methods, nanophysics, composite materials and numerical modelling of solids. In the lab you learn basic methods of manufacturing and testing nanometric materials, and students interested in industry can do internships abroad in industrial laboratories within Erasmus+.
Radiation Protection in Medicine, taught across both years, is intended for graduates of a first-cycle Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection specialisation in physics or of related fields in physics or ionising radiation dosimetry. It prepares you to work in health care units that use ionising radiation for diagnosis and therapy.
Practical classes on supervising compliance with radiological protection rules in the Radiation Protection in Medicine specialisation are run in cooperation with hospitals and local medical facilities.
