⇑Why study Computer Science at UJD?

Why study it:

Computer Science at Jan Długosz University in Częstochowa (UJD) is a 1.5-year Master's programme (second-cycle), taught in English. It is for graduates who want advanced skills in programming or in creating computer games, following a curriculum developed in cooperation with business representatives.

Specialisation: Programming or Creating Computer Games

The Programming specialisation combines software engineering practice with theoretical foundations – algorithms supporting the programming process and the mathematical basics of cryptography. You deepen object-oriented programming, compiler design and computer system security, and learn functional programming, data mining, business application programming, cloud computing and IT project management.

Creating Computer Games teaches you to design and program games: game interfaces, using engines to simulate scenes, modelling and animating 2D and 3D objects, physically simulated 3D scenes, mobile games and artificial intelligence algorithms in games. The curriculum focuses on computer and multimedia graphics, sound in games, augmented reality (AR) design and virtual reality (VR) programming.

Labs: labs in groups of up to 12

Most classes are laboratories and exercises. Laboratory classes take place in modern labs in small groups of up to 12 people, and you also have access to the faculty's computer lab. Outside classes, you can develop your interests in the Scientific Association of Students of the Faculty of Science and Technology.

Placements: three-month internships

You complete a 3-month internship and have extensive contact with potential employers. Part of your studies can also take place at partner universities under the Erasmus+ programme.

After graduation: software and the games industry

The programme prepares you to lead task and management teams in IT companies and to work, among others, as:

  • a tester and programmer,
  • a software architect,
  • a back-end developer,
  • a specialist in producing, implementing and developing modern software,
  • a game creator using the latest technologies in computer graphics and multimedia.

Did you know? The Creating Computer Games specialisation grew out of the city's location: Częstochowa is the main urban centre of the northern subregion of the Silesian Voivodeship, close to Katowice, where many computer graphics and games companies have their offices.

As of the 2026/27 admissions, based on the programme description at rekrutacja.ujd.edu.pl.

⇑Definitions and quotes

Computer
A computer is a device that can be instructed to carry out sequences of arithmetic or logical operations automatically via computer programming. Modern computers have the ability to follow generalized sets of operations, called programs. These programs enable computers to perform an extremely wide range of tasks.
Computer Science
Computer science is the study of the theory, experimentation, and engineering that form the basis for the design and use of computers. It is the scientific and practical approach to computation and its applications and the systematic study of the feasibility, structure, expression, and mechanization of the methodical procedures (or algorithms) that underlie the acquisition, representation, processing, storage, communication of, and access to, information. An alternate, more succinct definition of computer science is the study of automating algorithmic processes that scale. A computer scientist specializes in the theory of computation and the design of computational systems. See glossary of computer science.
Science
Science (from Latin scientia, meaning "knowledge") is a systematic enterprise that builds and organizes knowledge in the form of testable explanations and predictions about the universe.
Computer Science
I can’t be as confident about computer science as I can about biology. Biology easily has 500 years of exciting problems to work on. It’s at that level.
Donald Knuth (1993) Computer Literacy Bookshops Interview
Science
The men in the laboratory... cannot be said to observe the actual objects of their curiosity at all. ...The sense data on which the propositions of modern science rest are, for the most part, little photographic spots and blurs, or inky curved lines on paper. ... What is directly observable is only a sign of the "physical fact"; it requires interpretation to yield scientific propositions.
Susanne Langer, Philosophy in a New Key (1942)
Computer Science
Computer science... differs from physics in that it is not actually a science. It does not study natural objects. Neither is it, as you might think, mathematics; although it does use mathematical reasoning pretty extensively. Rather, computer science is like engineering; it is all about getting something to do something, rather than just dealing with abstractions, as in the pre-Smith geology.
Richard Feynman, Feynman Lectures on Computation, 1970
