Medicine at the Medical University of Warsaw (WUM) is a 6-year Master's programme (MD) taught in English. It is the right choice if you are interested in biology, chemistry and physics and want to gain the knowledge, practical skills and social competences needed to become a doctor.
The curriculum focuses on the theoretical basics and the principles of medical practice, including communication with patients and cooperation within a team. You study:
In your 4th year you start practical clinical classes. Clerkship, or vocational training, is also a vital part of the course: you take part in it each summer after every year of study, which adds up to 20 weeks in total. Clinical classes and internships take place in teaching hospitals, and the Faculty offers many facultative modules in fundamental, pre-clinical and clinical sciences, so you can follow your own interests.
You are prepared for the Polish Medical Licensing Examination (LEK), whose results determine where future specialist doctors can begin their residency.
Graduates find employment in public and private health care centres, in hospital and outpatient services, at medical universities and research institutes, in institutions that promote pro-health education, and in bodies dealing with case law and sanitary surveillance.
You can also continue through postgraduate courses, develop a scientific career through PhD studies, or gain new qualifications through professional and vocational training.
Did you know? WUM has a modern Sports and Rehabilitation Center with an Olympic-size swimming pool, and a choir, an orchestra and a theatre for students with artistic interests.
