1. Your school club is organising a tournament. What do you want to do?

Take charge of the organisation – the schedule, sponsors, promotion and making sure the day runs smoothly. Play, or help out on a stall. Come and watch, if I can find the time.

2. The local club you train with gets very few fans at its matches. What do you suggest?

Look at who might come along and suggest social media campaigns and family-friendly events. Suggest putting up more posters. It’s not my problem.

3. How do you follow sport?

I’m interested not just in results but in transfers, broadcasting rights, sponsors and how clubs make money. I watch matches and support my team. Sport doesn’t interest me.

4. Classes, case studies and projects will all be in English, and you’ll be studying alongside students from different countries. How does that sound?

Great – sport is a global business, and comparing how clubs and leagues work in different countries really interests me. Good, though giving presentations in English makes me a bit nervous. I’d rather study in my first language.

5. You have to plan the budget for your team’s trip to a competition. How do you go about it?

List every cost, look for savings and find possible sources of funding. Make a rough guess of what it’ll come to. I’d rather someone else did it.

6. At a sports event you’re helping to run, it suddenly starts pouring with rain. How do you react?

Calmly put the backup plan into action and let everyone know what’s changing. Wait for someone else to make a decision. Assume the event is cancelled.

7. Have you been involved in sport beyond training – as a volunteer, referee or team captain?

Yes, I like being responsible for people and for how an event runs. I’ve helped out at a competition once or twice. No, and it doesn’t appeal to me.

8. A company wants to sponsor your team. What do you think matters most?

That both sides benefit – the club gets funding and the company gets visibility and goodwill among fans. That the club gets as much money as possible. I don’t have a view.

9. Where do you see yourself after graduating?

Running a club, organising sports events, working in sports marketing or at a sports federation. In any job connected with sport. Well away from sport.

10. What motivates you most to study Sport Management?

The chance to combine a passion for sport with management, marketing and organisation. A love of sport. I’m not sure it’s for me
