⇑Why study Psychology at SWPS University?

Dlaczego warto studiować na Uniwersytecie SWPS
Why study it:

Psychology at SWPS University is an undergraduate degree lasting three years, delivered in English in the Polish capital on weekdays. It is built for curious people who want evidence-based tools for understanding why individuals behave the way they do.

Programme: theory, practice and a EuroPsy-based curriculum

The degree sets out to connect scientific theory with everyday professional practice. Early on you meet the foundations: how we think, how we feel, and what makes each personality unique. Biological Foundations of Human Behavior and Introduction to Psychometrics sit next to social psychology, which asks how culture shapes experience. Later you see psychology applied in clinical health, psychopathology, education and modern workplaces. Statistics and methodology prepare you to do research yourself, and group projects return in every year of study. The curriculum follows the EuroPsy standard created by the European Federation of Psychologists' Associations, and you study in a multicultural community in Warsaw, a city known for its green spaces and safety.

After graduation: professional directions

⇑Definitions and quotes

Psychology
Psychology is the science of behavior and mind, including conscious and unconscious phenomena, as well as feeling and thought. It is an academic discipline of immense scope and diverse interests that, when taken together, seek an understanding of the emergent properties of brains, and all the variety of epiphenomena they manifest. As a social science it aims to understand individuals and groups by establishing general principles and researching specific cases.
Psychology
The old distinctions among emotion, reason, and aesthetics are like the earth, air, and fire of an ancient alchemy. We will need much better concepts than these for a working psychic chemistry.
Marvin Minsky, "Music, Mind, and Meaning" (1981)
Psychology
Psychology has a long past, but only a short history.
Herman Ebbinghaus, cited in: Edwin Boring (1929) A History of Experimental Psychology p. ix
Psychology
[Modern psychology] appears as the sickly offspring of average common sense when it is taken as what it professes to be—a science of the inner life. The entire achievements of the so-called science in this respect is outweighed by a single page of Goethe’s or of Jean Paul’s psychology; and it is impossible to evade the bitter truth which Novalis already has summed up, when he says that so-called psychology is one of those idols which have usurped the place in the sanctuary where true images of the gods should stand.
Ludwig Klages, The Science of Character, W. Johnston, trans., p. 16
