Message (Communication Design) is the specialisation at SWPS University for people who want to communicate through screens, images and code. You pick it after your first year on the Design degree.
Many of the people who teach here come from visual professions. Their areas include graphic design, illustration and poster design, visual communication, visual information systems, new media and installations, and book publishing. You learn about images from those who make them for a living, and the programme's wider faculty also adds a psychologist, a philosopher and an art anthropologist to the mix.
The specialisation prepares you to work digitally, across:
Two studios suit image-making especially well. The photo and video studio is headed by a professional photographer who is a psychologist by education, and the screen printing studio by an illustrator, artist and graphic designer who also designs children's books. The computer lab and the AI Open Lab add further digital tools.
