Software Engineering and Business Applications is a specialisation within the Computer Science programme, a full-time Bachelor's course taught in English at the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology (PJAIT). It is for those who want to plan, design and deliver information systems as a team.
You learn to analyse and design information systems with popular object-oriented notations such as UML and with CASE tools. The curriculum addresses software engineering, including the life cycle of different methodologies, for example incremental ones, and how to manage a software development project. You also learn to turn analysis results, such as diagrams, into code in an object-oriented programming language. Group and individual engineering projects bring together databases, software engineering, and mobile and distributed web technologies.
The specialisation is built on two subjects and a practical toolset:
Graduates are specialists in the analysis, design, implementation, testing and administration of information systems, with knowledge of methods for improving software quality. They are sought after by medium and large IT companies, including foreign ones, that deliver key projects for administration, banks, schools, the media and private enterprises.
Thesis topics show how broad the field is: an emergency incident handling system, a platform for managing an assembly company, a mobile application that supports foreign language learning, a workflow system for document and software quality management, or a comparison of object-relational mappers.
