⇑Why choose the Network and Systems Programming specialisation at the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology?

Dlaczego warto studiować w Polsko-Japońskiej Akademii Technik Komputerowych
Why study it:

Network and Systems Programming is a specialisation within the Computer Science programme, a full-time Bachelor's course taught in English at the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology (PJAIT). It is for those who want to design, secure and manage computer networks and build reliable network software.

Programme: network security and administration

The classes cover a broad technical range, including:

  • information protection in networks, firewalls and intrusion detection and prevention systems
  • steganography, watermarks, cryptography and digital forensics
  • distributed programming and building secure, efficient network software
  • quality of service (QoS) protocols and advanced routing, local area networks, VLANs and VPNs
  • network diagnostics, performance evaluation and wireless network design

Specialisation: advanced networks and operating systems

Specialisation subjects are Advanced Computer Networks and Advanced Operating Systems. Alongside them you learn to administer and configure networks, operating systems and databases, and to apply basic software engineering principles when designing software that is secure and dependable. A separate path leads towards digital forensics, which is needed when companies respond to security breaches or digital crime.

Labs: network laboratory with Cisco equipment

A specialised laboratory is equipped for building computer networks, with portable cabinets holding switches and Cisco routers, mobile devices that you can borrow or use on site, and Apple computers for software development in Objective-C.

After graduation: network, security and forensics specialist

Graduates are sought by companies that depend on secure, high-performance networks and by software firms in e-commerce, e-learning, e-government and e-business.

Thesis topics include authentication and authorisation protocols in computer networks, digital forensics investigation methods and the auditing of intrusion detection systems. Others deal with information security in electronic banking, network protocol analysis, planning Voice over IP services and redundancy mechanisms in computer networks.

10 questions · two minutes

1. A website won’t load, even though the internet is working. What do you do?

2. Where are you with programming?

3. Do you ever work in a terminal, using the command line?

4. Several devices at home keep dropping off the network. How do you tackle it?

5. Your program is fast, but it slows right down when lots of people use it at once. What do you do?

6. You’ll study in an international environment, in English: documentation, protocol specifications, code reviews and teamwork with students from many countries. How does that sound?

7. You read about an attack that exploited a memory-handling bug in a popular program. What interests you?

8. You hit a bug that only shows up now and then and is hard to reproduce. What do you do?

9. What kind of work can you see yourself doing in future?

10. What motivates you most to study Network and Systems Programming?

Programming
bug, n: An elusive creature living in a program that makes it incorrect. The activity of "debugging", or removing bugs from a program, ends when people get tired of doing it, not when the bugs are removed.

Given enough eyeballs, all bugs are shallow.
