Databases is a specialisation within the Computer Science programme at the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology (PJAIT). It is for people who want to design, administer and tune database systems and build applications on top of them.
You learn to program, administer and tune databases, using Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, IBM DB2, MySQL and PostgreSQL as examples. You also become familiar with database design, with CASE tools for design work, and with creating database applications that operate on the Internet and local networks. The specialisation subjects are Internet Technologies and Database Administration. Working with several systems side by side shows you which database management system and which means of optimising access suit a given problem, a skill that stays useful whichever product a future employer chooses.
The laboratory is equipped with virtual design, database and application servers. You have access to:
The specialisation prepares you for work in IT companies and departments as an analyst, information system designer, database system administrator, application programmer, web application designer, or web portal designer and administrator.
Sample thesis topics show the practical character of the area: a library system, an online store and an online tea house. Each is a complete application with a database at its core, designed, built and documented by the student.
