⇑Why choose the Cloud Computing Management specialisation at the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology?

Dlaczego warto studiować w Polsko-Japońskiej Akademii Technik Komputerowych
Why study it:

Cloud Computing Management is a specialisation within the Computer Science programme at the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology (PJAIT). It is for people who want to join technical knowledge about cloud platforms with business skills.

Programme: containers, automation and cloud foundations

The specialisation subjects are Containers and Orchestration and Cloud Computing Automation. In the semester before you choose your area, you can take the elective Fundamentals of Cloud Computing, open to all students but most closely tied to this specialisation. You build on solid IT foundations – system architecture, computer networks and security – and add knowledge of virtualisation, containerisation and infrastructure automation, with basic programming and scripting in Python and Bash.

Specialisation: what a graduate can do

After this specialisation you:

  • know public cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud
  • design scalable, secure and cost-effective cloud architecture, and migrate existing systems to the cloud
  • automate infrastructure with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation
  • manage containerised applications with Docker and Kubernetes
  • apply cloud security practices and compliance with regulations such as GDPR and ISO standards
  • manage and optimise databases, data warehouses and Big Data solutions in the cloud
  • monitor cloud resources, analyse performance and forecast spending on cloud services

After graduation: roles in the cloud

Typical roles include Cloud Solutions Architect, Cloud Operations Engineer, DevOps Engineer, Cloud Security Specialist, Cloud Migration Specialist and FinOps Specialist. You can work in large corporations as well as in smaller companies introducing cloud solutions, in sectors such as finance, healthcare, e-commerce, manufacturing and the public sector.

Sample thesis topics include a microservice architecture for e-commerce applications in the cloud, a CI/CD strategy for cloud-native applications, and GitOps strategies for managing cloud infrastructure.

⇑Definitions and quotes

Cloud Computing
Cloud computing is an information technology (IT) paradigm that enables ubiquitous access to shared pools of configurable system resources and higher-level services that can be rapidly provisioned with minimal management effort, often over the Internet. Cloud computing relies on sharing of resources to achieve coherence and economies of scale, similar to a public utility.
Computing
Computing is any goal-oriented activity requiring, benefiting from, or creating computers. Computing includes designing, developing and building hardware and software systems; designing a mathematical sequence of steps known as an algorithm; processing, structuring, and managing various kinds of information; doing scientific research on and with computers; making computer systems behave intelligently; and creating and using communications and entertainment media. The field of computing includes computer engineering, software engineering, computer science, information systems, and information technology.
Management
Management (or managing) is the administration of an organization, whether it is a business, a not-for-profit organization, or government body. Management includes the activities of setting the strategy of an organization and coordinating the efforts of its employees (or of volunteers) to accomplish its objectives through the application of available resources, such as financial, natural, technological, and human resources. The term "management" may also refer to those people who manage an organization.
Management
Management of many is the same as management of few. It is a matter of organization.
Sun Tzu (c. 6th century BC) The Art of War
Management
You manage things, you lead people. We went overboard on management and forgot about leadership. It might help if we ran the MBAs out of Washington.
Grace Hopper (1987), quoted in "The Wit and Wisdom of Grace Hopper" by Philip Schieber, OCLC Newsletter, No. 167 (March/April 1987)
Management
The remarkable thing about management is that a manager can go on for years making mistakes that nobody is aware of, which means that management can be a kind of a con job.
Akio Morita (1987). Made in Japan, p. 154
