Why study it:

The MA in Political Science at the University of Humanities and Economics in Lodz (AHE) is a two-year second-cycle programme taught in English, available full-time or part-time with e-learning support. It is for graduates who want a deeper understanding of political systems and international relations, with a choice between international trade and business or security and crisis management.

Programme: theory, research methods and active classes

The programme covers political science theories, research methodologies and their practical application, and helps you understand the dynamics of political change, decision-making strategies and the behaviour of actors in political processes. A large part of the classes takes the form of projects, exercises, workshops and seminars, with research projects and real-world case studies. From the second semester you focus on your chosen specialisation.

Specialisation: trade and business or security and crisis

International Trade and Business looks at the dynamics of international trade and business on the European market: trade policies, global economic integration, regional cooperation, negotiation strategies and the economic factors that shape trade worldwide.

Security and Crisis Management deals with modern security challenges such as terrorism, cyber threats and geopolitical tensions. You learn to analyse and respond to crises, develop crisis management strategies and work with security policies, international relations and conflict resolution.

After graduation: public sector, international institutions, business

Graduates can pursue careers in:

  • governmental organisations and public administration, including crisis management teams and centres
  • international institutions and representations of European institutions
  • non-profit organisations and think tanks
  • international trade companies and private-sector firms operating globally

It deals extensively with the theory and practice of politics which is commonly thought of as determining of the distribution of power and resources. Political scientists "see themselves engaged in revealing the relationships underlying political events and conditions, and from these revelations they attempt to construct general principles about the way the world of politics works."
Science
Science (from Latin scientia, meaning "knowledge") is a systematic enterprise that builds and organizes knowledge in the form of testable explanations and predictions about the universe.
Science
Those (natural) laws cannot be circumvented by any amount of piety or cleverness, but they can be understood. Uncovering them should be the highest goal of a civilized society. Not, as we have seen, because scientists have any claim to greater intellect or virtue, but because the scientific method transcends the flaws of individual scientists. Science is the only way we have of separating the truth from ideology, or fraud, or mere foolishness.
Robert L. Park, Voodoo Science (2000), p. 211
Science
Science has an important part to play in our everyday existence, and there is far too much neglect of science; but its intention is to supplement not to supplant the familiar outlook.
Arthur Eddington, Science and the Unseen World (1929).
Science
Science is the topography of ignorance.
Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr., Medical Essays, 211. Quotes reported in Hoyt's New Cyclopedia Of Practical Quotations (1922), p. 691-92.
