The Maria Grzegorzewska University established in 1922 is a university of 90-year-old teaching tradition. Among its biggest assets are highly qualified staff, diverse programs of study and improved conditions of studying (new premises as well as well good quality IT equipment). We provide a range of varied study opportunities including acquisition of respectful jobs which are highly demanded in the job market. Nowadays, we have approximately 7,000 students enrolled in both full-time and part-time study programmes. In addition, the Academy offers various postgraduate programmes which provide complementary qualifications in general and special education, as well as in other fields of social life.
Within the Special Education programmes we focus on training of teachers and teacher assistants to children, adolescents and adults with intellectual difficulties, hearing, speech or sight impediment, motor impairment, physical disabilities as well as emotional and behavioral disorders. Our pedagogical courses prepare for working both at school (a school pedagogue) and other special education centers. It also aims to educate in the general field of social pedagogy. This refers to family support services, cultural and educational activity in a local area, continuing education of adults, job counseling, community prevention (i.e. street education) and psychopedagogy of creativity, which is designed to prepare for non-standard educational work with children.
Artistic Education in the field of fine arts is a programme which provides competencies in fine arts as well as prepares for work in various education and therapeutic institutions. As far as the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences is concerned, we are the first higher education institution in Poland to have started a full-time social work study program. The programme is designed to meet the needs of the growing population of the elderly, disabled or chronically ill who need professional care and support.
Master degree program in psychology started in the academic year 2007/2008 at the Faculty of Social Sciences. Psychology at The Maria Grzegorzewska University has two specializations - Clinic Psychology and Applied Social Psychology. The first prepares students for roles of a diagnostician, therapist and clinic psychologist, the second focuses on the activities of counseling, training, intervention and coaching. Both specializations are also available on part-time studies program.

Mission The Mission of The Maria Grzegorzewska Academy of Special Education (ASE), in according with the idea of the University's patron that there is no handicap - there is a person , is to prepare special educators and teachers working for the welfare of people with various disabilities. Moreover, help them to support disabled people in terms of respect for their human and civil rights, including an understanding and acceptance for otherness.
The University also teaches graduates to persive disability as an indispensable element of the human condition, thus guiding them to bringing people with disabilities into society as legitimate citizens.
All students of our University, are and will be trained in the spirit of tolerance and opposition to all kinds of discrimination. The ASE's intention is to educate students to be open-minded and creative professionals who care about developing their own personality, academic passions and professional practical skills, as well as people and environments for the welfare of which they will be working.
The University aspires to be a leading national and European center for exchange of thoughts and ideas in the area of modern pedagogy, special education and social sciences.
