Answer all questions to see if a Master's in Social Data Analysis is the right next step for you!

1. Do you want to advance your ability to collect, clean, and interpret social data using quantitative methods?

2. Are you interested in applying statistical modeling and machine learning to understand societal trends and behaviors?

3. Do you want to develop skills in data visualization and communication to make social insights accessible to non-experts?

4. Are you willing to engage in interdisciplinary research combining sociology, economics, public policy, and data science?

5. Do you believe that a two-year master’s degree in Social Data Analysis will significantly enhance your ability to influence social policy or research?

6. Are you interested in ethical issues in social data—privacy, bias, consent, and responsible use?

7. Do you want to strengthen your programming and data engineering skills (e.g., Python/R, databases, APIs) for handling large social datasets?

8. Are you motivated to work on real-world projects that inform NGOs, governments, or social enterprises?

9. Are you comfortable collaborating with domain experts (e.g., sociologists, public health professionals, policy makers) to frame and interpret data questions?

10. What motivates you most to pursue a Master’s in Social Data Analysis?

Definitions and quotes

Analysis
Analysis is the process of breaking a complex topic or substance into smaller parts in order to gain a better understanding of it. The technique has been applied in the study of mathematics and logic since before Aristotle (384–322 B.C.), though analysis as a formal concept is a relatively recent development.
Data
Data ( DAY-tə, DAT-ə, DAH-tə) is a set of values of qualitative or quantitative variables.
Data Analysis
Data analysis is a process of inspecting, cleansing, transforming, and modeling data with the goal of discovering useful information, suggesting conclusions, and supporting decision-making. Data analysis has multiple facets and approaches, encompassing diverse techniques under a variety of names, in different business, science, and social science domains.
Social
Living organisms including humans are social when they live collectively in interacting populations, whether they are aware of it, and whether the interaction is voluntary or involuntary.
Analysis
Fortunately analysis is not the only way to resolve inner conflicts. Life itself still remains a very effective therapist... The therapy effected by life itself is not, however, within one's control. Neither hardships nor friendships nor religious experience can be arranged to meet the needs of the particular individual. Life as a therapist is ruthless; circumstances that are helpful to one neurotic may entirely crush another.
Karen Horney Our Inner Conflicts (1945)
Analysis
The investigation of difficult things by the method of analysis ought ever to precede the method of composition.
Isaac Newton, reported in Austin Allibone ed. Prose Quotations from Socrates to Macaulay. (1903), p. 34
Analysis
[A]t the close of the Middle Ages, when the so-called Arabic figures became established throughout Europe with the symbol 0 and the principle of local value, immediate progress was made in the art of reckoning. The problems... led up to the general solutions of equations of the third and fourth degree by the Italian mathematicians of the sixteenth century. Yet even these discoveries were made in somewhat the same manner as problems in mental arithmetic are now solved in common schools; for the present signs of plus, minus, and equality, the radical and exponential signs, and especially the systematic use of letters for denoting general quantities in algebra, had not yet become universal. The last step was definitively due to... Vieta... and the mighty advancement of analysis resulting therefrom can hardly be measured or imagined.
