Excellence in sports education

The Sport Management program at the AWFiS offers a unique educational experience in the only sports university in the Pomerania region. The institution is recognized as one of the best sports universities in Central and Eastern Europe, consistently holding high positions in prestigious international rankings such as the Shanghai Ranking's Global Ranking of Sport Science Schools and Departments. GUPES also maintains a leading spot among sports universities in Poland, providing students with a prestigious and internationally recognized degree.

Expert-led practical training

The educational process at GUPES is distinguished by the high caliber of its teaching staff, which includes both renowned scientists and highly qualified specialists. Students have the exceptional opportunity to learn from coaches of Olympic and national teams as well as outstanding athletes. This blend of academic rigor and elite practical experience ensures that the knowledge passed on to students is not only theoretical but deeply rooted in the realities of high-performance sports and modern management.

Focus on the sports industry

Studies in the field of sport management are specifically designed to prepare professionals for the dynamic sport industry. The curriculum focuses on managing sports organizations and teams, overseeing sports infrastructure, and the complex organization of sports events. By concentrating on these key areas, the university ensures that its graduates possess a comprehensive understanding of how the sports sector functions from the inside, making them highly competitive in the job market.

Comprehensive management competencies

Throughout the two-year master's program, students gain the skills necessary to manage various types of sports organizations effectively. The training covers essential aspects such as designing and building a sports brand, selecting and implementing effective marketing activities, and organizing sponsorship. Furthermore, the program emphasizes the use of Public Relations tools and techniques, which are crucial for the modern management of any professional sports entity or social activity in the field of sport.

Practical profile of studies

GUPES places a significant emphasis on the practical aspects of functioning within the sports sector. This approach allows graduates to stand out from those of more general management or marketing faculties. The integration of academic knowledge with practical skills prepares students to work with both professional athletes and the general public. This practical profile ensures that every student is ready to face real-world challenges immediately after completing their degree.

Global communication skills

As the program is conducted in English, graduates achieve a high level of language proficiency, reaching at least the B2 level according to international standards. This focus on specialist language enables effective communication in a professional international environment. Mastering professional terminology in English opens doors to careers in global sports federations, international agencies, and multinational corporations involved in sports equipment distribution or sports media.

Entrepreneurial and social readiness

The program not only prepares students for corporate or institutional roles but also fosters an entrepreneurial spirit. Graduates gain the knowledge required to set up their own independent business ventures or lead social initiatives within the sports world. This versatility is a hallmark of GUPES, allowing alumni to adapt to the changing landscape of the sports market and create their own professional paths as consultants or innovators.

Diverse career opportunities

The career prospects for Sport Management graduates are vast and cover multiple sectors of the economy. Alumni are prepared to work in sports clubs, unions, associations, and professional leagues. They also find opportunities in companies managing sports facilities, sports marketing agencies, and the media. Additionally, the competencies gained at the university allow for employment in government and local government authorities, where they can influence the development of sports policy and infrastructure.

Definitions and quotes

Management
Management (or managing) is the administration of an organization, whether it is a business, a not-for-profit organization, or government body. Management includes the activities of setting the strategy of an organization and coordinating the efforts of its employees (or of volunteers) to accomplish its objectives through the application of available resources, such as financial, natural, technological, and human resources. The term "management" may also refer to those people who manage an organization.
Sport
Sport (British English) or sports (American English) includes all forms of competitive physical activity or games which, through casual or organised participation, aim to use, maintain or improve physical ability and skills while providing enjoyment to participants, and in some cases, entertainment for spectators. Hundreds of sports exist, from those between single contestants, through to those with hundreds of simultaneous participants, either in teams or competing as individuals. In certain sports such as racing, many contestants may compete, simultaneously or consecutively, with one winner; in others, the contest (a match) is between two sides, each attempting to exceed the other. Some sports allow a tie game; others provide tie-breaking methods to ensure one winner and one loser. A number of contests may be arranged in a tournament producing a champion. Many sports leagues make an annual champion by arranging games in a regular sports season, followed in some cases by playoffs.
Sport Management
Sport management is the field of business dealing with sports and recreation. Some examples of sport managers include the front office system in professional sports, college sports managers, recreational sport managers, sports marketing, event management, facility management, sports economics, sport finance, and sports information.

Administration is the most obvious part of government; it is government in action; it is the executive, the operative, the most visible side of government, and is of course as old as government itself.
Woodrow Wilson, "The Study of Administration," Political Science Quarterly, Vol. 2, No. 2 (June, 1887), pp. 197-222.
Management
The brutality of a man purely motivated by monetary considerations … often does not appear to him at all as a moral delinquency, since he is aware only of a rigorously logical behavior, which draws the objective consequences of the situation.
Georg Simmel, “Domination,” On Individuality and Social Forms (1971), p. 110
Management
The worker is not the problem. The problem is at the top! Management!
